Staff: who are they and what do they do? 15-18 y/o

In hospital, there are many different people and professionals that will help your special person, your family and you through the recovery journey.

Each health professional is an expert in the area that your special person needs support.

You are encouraged to visit your special person and join in as you feel comfortable.

Neurosurgeon: A doctor who specialises in surgery on the brain, spine and other parts of the nervous system.Doctor: Is a specialist who helps the special person with a brain injury. They supervise the best recovery of your special person, talk with other health professionals involved and can give medicines.
Nurse: An expert who will support your special person’s health such as helping with tasks like moving in and out of bed, staying clean and giving any medications neededWard Clerk: Is a person who helps your special person and their family with hospital paperwork and answers the phone when families call in. 
Speech Pathologist: Helps your special person to talk, understand, think and swallow. They decide what food is safe for your special person to eat.Social Worker: Supports your special person to cope with the effects of their brain injury. They can talk with you and your family about your experiences and get any extra supports and services.
Occupational Therapist: Helps your special person to practice tasks like getting dressed and having a shower. They support your special person to remember how to do things, pay attention and be safe in hospital, where they live and in the community.Physiotherapist: Helps your special person with muscle strength, movement and balance.
Psychologist: Supports your special person’s feelings and behaviours. Neuropsychologist: A neuropsychologist assesses cognitive and behavioural functions, designs personalised treatment plans, and helps patients regain their mental and emotional well-being.
Dietician: Evaluates nutritional needs, creates tailored meal plans, and provides guidance to support your special person’s recovery and overall health.
