Ward – adult

STILL TO CHANGE

After the ICU, your parent may go to another place in the hospital called a ‘ward’. Going to a ward means your parent is well enough to come off the machines in the ICU and be looked after by a different group of nurses, doctors and staff.

Being in the ward will help your family understand what may happen next in their recovery and where they may go.

Your parent may go home straight from hospital, or they may need to go to another hospital, called ‘rehabilitation’.

If your parent goes to rehabilitation, they may have to wait in the hospital until there is a bed free.

If your parent is well enough to go home, they may go to therapies in the community from home to help them try to get better.

The staff working on the ward will talk about what is needed for your parent, your family and you.
